About Me

My name is Amanda Bevers I am a literature and writing studies major and this is my last semester. I am going to be entering the credential program hopefully for this Fall to begin my journey to become a high school English teacher. I've attended CSUSM since 2010 before that I attended Palomar and received 2 AA degrees there. Before College I attended Orange Glen High School, Hidden Valley Middle School, Oak Hill Elementary, and Pioneer Elementary in Escondido California. I hated my early years in school because I was often picked on for one reason or another so it wasn't until high school that enjoyed the social aspects of school. However, I always enjoyed the academic side of school. I was a very good student in reading, writing, history, and science my only trouble subject was math, I hate math.

I'm pretty proficient with technology due to growing up in a very tech savvy environment at home. I was one of the only kids in my earlier years to even own a computer let alone her own computer. My father can build his own computers so he built one for me, my brother, my mom, and himself so I was always surrounded by computers and tech as a kid. I really got into computer and video games as a teenager. Today I own several gaming systems a pc, laptop and kindle tablet. I do not have a fancy smart phone however because the monthly payments are way to expensive for me so I have a really craptastic phone. I'm pretty comfortable with tech but I'm unfamiliar with apple products.

A part of the SOE mission statement that speaks to me is the part that says "Our practices demonstrate a commitment to student-centered education, diversity, collaboration, professionalism, and shared government" Learning how to teach based on what is best for the student is important to me because I believe that as a teacher it is my job to help every student learn in the way that is best for them as an individual student. So a student centered commitment is important to me.

  1. Amanda, congrats on your last semester! That's great that your father builds computers! Must save you and your family a lot of money. And he has probably passed down his computer knowledge and skills. Student centered commitment is highly important. After all, the school is for the students.

  3. Hi Amanda :) I also love literature and writing and didn't truly enjoy the social realm of school until I was in high school. I admire your outlook and belief in a student- centered teaching approach. I think that's very valuable, and I wish more teachers thought the way you do!

  4. Hello Amanda! I was an english lit major early in my college career until one of my instructors told me they drove a cab for 10 years because they couldn't get a job. Anyways, I'm excited about the credential program and look forward to entering it the same year as you.
